The eighth annual will be held on Asian Forum on Corporate Social Responsibility (AFCSR)November 19 & 20, 2009 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Metro, Manila.

This year's theme is " Sustaining CSR in Difficult Times: How business can benefit and why it still makes business sense " The conference is to be a two-day affair featuring the integration of a) plenary sessions addressed by keynote speakers, b) special interest sessions that focus on specific dynamics, learnings and best practices of companies, c) an expo featuring specific company CSR programs, and d) optional field visits to innovative CSR program sites in and around Manila.

The task will be achieved through the dissemination of relevant information via expert resource speakers and state-of-the-art visual aids. Towards this end, senior executives from several nations representing government, corporate and NGOs will be workshop speakers at the event.

Mr. Ramon R. del Rosario, Jr., Chairman of the Board of Advisors, Ramon V. del Rosario, Sr. AIM Center for Corporate Social Responsibility (AIM-RVR CSR Center) will chair the event.

Asian CSR Awards

The Asian CSR Awards Program recognizes and honors Asian companies for outstanding, innovative and world-class products, services, projects and programs in five categories. These projects should demonstrate the company’s leadership, sincerity and on-going commitment in incorporating ethical values, compliance with legal requirements, respect for individuals, involvement in communities and protection of the environment into the way they do business. Companies can enter as many projects as they wish in one or more of these categories.

The presentation ceremonies will take place during the Gala Dinner and Awards Night of the Asian Forum on Corporate Social Responsibility (AFCSR) 2009 on November 20, 2009 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Metro Manila. Hundreds of senior executives and professionals from government, business, civil society and the media will be present.

Philippine Book Launch Of “Corporate Social Responsibility In Asia: Getting It Done The Intel Way”

The Asian Institute of Management—Ramon V. del Rosario, Sr. Center for Corporate Social Responsibility (AIM-RVR CSR Center), in partnership with Intel Philippines, launched the book, “Corporate Social Responsibility in Asia: Getting it Done the Intel Way” last April 27 at the AIM Conference Center Manila.

The launch was attended by CSR practitioners from business organizations, the government, academe, and civic organizations. Among the notable personalities present from AIM and Intel were Mr. Michael Wentling, Intel Philippines Managing Director; Dr. Anjan Ghosh, Director, APAC Corporate Affairs Group of Intel Corporation; Mr. Francis G. Estrada, AIM President; and Prof. Felipe B. Alfonso, Executive Director of the AIM-RVR CSR Center.

Guests present included representatives from: BDO Foundation Inc., Bureau of Product Standards of the Department of Trade and Industry, Cavite CSR Council, FIT-ED, Glenn Defense Marine Asia Phils, Inc., Globe Telecom, Landbank Countryside Development Foundation, Inc., Lopez Group Foundation, Makati Business Club, Metrobank Foundation, Inc., Philam Foundation, Philippine Working Group on Social Responsibility, Quezon Power, San Miguel Corporation, SITEL, Toyota Motor Philippines Foundation, Inc., UCBP-CIIF Foundation, Inc., Unilever Philippines, UP College of Engineering, UP-NISMED and VOICE Network.

This book provides CSR practitioners with 15 case studies on the implementation of Intel’s well-focused and long-running CSR programs in education, community engagement and employee volunteerism, environment and supply chain management, across its key sites in Asia. The book’s overriding message is that: Companies must see the necessity of meaningful collaboration—between firms and governments, firms and civil society and between and among firms—in effectively addressing the social issues that affect the common future of Asian economies and the firms operating in them.

Corporate Social Responsibility in the Mining Sector in the APEC Region

A Round Table Discussion

The Asian Institute of Management Ramon V. del Rosario Sr. Center for Corporate Social Responsibility (AIM-RVR CSR Center) held a roundtable discussion (RTD) on Corporate Social Responsibility in the Mining Sector in APEC Economies last 21 April 2009. It was attended by representatives from different mining stakeholder groups (mining companies, government and civil society). The RTD was moderated by Prof. Maya Herrera of AIM with the participation of two mining experts who gave their corresponding presentations: Mr. Graeme Deegan (Managing Director, Resource Advisory Pty) and Dr. Catherine Coumans (Research Coordinator, MiningWatch Canada).

The RTD is the initial component under the APEC funded project “Capacity Building of Mining Stakeholders in APEC Economies on Corporate Social Responsibility”. The AIM-RVR CSR Center recognizes that although mining has great economic benefits, there are environmental and social concerns that need to be balanced with the economic benefits to ensure sustainable mining. One of the main objectives of this project is to educate the different stakeholders on relevant CSR issues and practices to increase awareness on best CSR practices in mining operations and enhance the implementation of CSR mining programs.
